As if following in the sinful footsteps of Jeroboam son of Nebat were not bad enough, he married Jezebel the daughter of King Ethbaal of the Sidonians. Then he worshiped and bowed to Baal. He set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal he had built in Samaria. Ahab also made an Asherah pole; he did more to anger the Lord God of Israel than all the kings of Israel who were before him.
1 Kings 16:31-33 NET
So what did Ahab do to make God angrier than He had ever been? He built a temple to Baal, worshipped false gods and encouraged his people to worship too!
Actually, all of chapter 16 in 1 Kings is about God taking out Kings of Israel for “following in the footsteps of Jeroboam,” which was leading the people into worshipping false gods.
One King of Israel only lasted two days!
But Ahab took it to another level!
Why do people test God? Why do they not realize that He is the only way?
The Bible is filled with examples of people not listening and obeying.
But this has always happened. It happens today as well! In the end, nothing good comes from not obeying and worshipping the Lord.
So take a moment to reflect on this question, what is your end game?
When it is all said and done, and you take your last breathe, what will be said of your life? Will people say that you were a worshipper of God?
And truly, what people say doesn’t matter. What does matter is, what does God say about your life?
Will He say that you worshipped Him with your whole heart, mind and spirit? That means more than all the gold in the world!
Who you worship is very important to God! Put Him first. Everything else will fall into place.
Father, search my heart and find that I love and serve You with everything. And if I put something else before You, convict me quickly so that I will always honor You. There is nothing I desire more.
