I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 ESV
The life of faith in Jesus Christ isn’t a 50-50 thing. It is a 100% thing or nothing!
I’ve had many people tell me that they are “spiritual.” The implication is that they incorporate some sort of “truth” into their life. That is fine if they want to follow another god.
But following Jesus isn’t just about being “spiritual,” it’s about dying.
Yes! You die to your own desires, wishes and hopes and take on the desires that Jesus has for your life.
Jesus was a model for this while He was in His earthly ministry. He didn’t want to die on the cross. It was the most evil form of torture known. People died a slow death hanging up there. He knew what it entailed.
But in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed, “not My will, but Yours be done.” And God’s will, His plan for Jesus, was to die for the sins of man.
And He did. Because He was obedient to the Father.
And we are called to come and die to ourselves too. Be crucified with Him, so you can live with and for Him.
And the life you live here and now is not only spiritual, but in the flesh, everyday, living for Jesus! You don’t get to pick and choose.
He lives in you! Your whole outlook changes. You care about what He cares about. What breaks His heart, should break your heart. You start to live to obey God’s Word, like He did.
Have you truly died? Or are you just being “spiritual?” There is only one way that Jesus wants you. He wants ALL of you!
Father, help me to die to myself each day so that I can live for You. Remind me that this world is temporary and my true life is caught up with You in eternity.
