22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
Matthew 7:22-23 NASB
This is one of the scariest Scriptures in the Bible. It is scary because Jesus is saying that there will be people on the Day of Judgement who believe they are going to Heaven, but they won’t be allowed in.
The reason Jesus gives is that He never truly knew them. They went through the motions, even phrophesied, cast out demons and performed miracles. But Jesus will say depart from me, you who practice lawlessness.
So these people did all the things Christians are “supposed” to do, but don’t get in. There is more insight in those last few words, “you who practice lawlessness.’
You see, it is easy to go through the motions, but never really know Jesus. The word lawlessness implies that these people never made Jesus Lord of their life. They liked the benefits of salvation, but still followed their own way.
You don’t get partial credit in Heaven. You either belong to Jesus 100% or you don’t at all.
Don’t go to the Judgement Day assuming you are right with God. Be sold out completely. This world is nothing compared to the overwhelming riches of knowing Jesus intimately.
Is Jesus truly your Lord? This means that He is in control and He calls the shots. You no longer live for yourself, but you follow His ways and His commands.
His yoke is easy and His burden is light. But He does require your whole life. He will not share you with any other lover. You need to give yourself first to Him wholeheartedly.
And the awesome thing about it all is that He blesses you tremendously for it! You experience real life.
What do you need to readjust in your life? You need to learn more and draw closer to Him. This happens when you read His Word, pray and live in obedience to His ways.
So what do you need to do? Make time for Him! Turn off distractions like TV and other things that don’t have any eternal value. You will not be dissapointed.
Lord, help me to live this life pleasing to You. Help me to walk in obedience to Your Word. Give me strength when the world around me tempts me to walk in other ways. Put a fire inside of me for You that cannot be quenched.
