The chief jailer did not supervise anything under Joseph’s charge because the Lord was with him; and whatever he did, the Lord made to prosper.
Genesis 39:23 NASB
From an outsider’s perspective, it’s easy to look at the life of Joseph and see that he was blessed. We read verses like this one and say, of course he was blessed, the Lord was with him. But, we don’t always see the reason behind the Lord blessing Joseph.
Joseph was blessed because he obeyed and trusted in God. One example is how he spurred the advances of Potiphar’s wife. He knew it was not right to sleep with her. He chose to do the right thing and didn’t sin against God or Potiphar.
God rewards those who diligently seek Him and obey His commands. That is a big reason why Joseph was blessed in Egypt.
Following God’s ways means that you don’t always do what you want. You might see something you like, that you’re drawn to, but it might not be what God allows for you.
Society will tell you to do whatever feels right. God wants you to follow His commands. You are pulled and have to decide which choice you are going to follow.
If you follow God’s commands, there is a blessing of staying in a right relationship with God. This is where Joseph stayed and where all of God’s people should want to be.
Lord, help me to walk in Your ways. Help me to obey Your commands and walk the way that is pleasing to you.
