Then the Lord said,
“Because this people draw near with their words
And honor Me with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,
Isaiah 29:13 NASB
The Lord isn’t interested in a big show. He wants true worship, true praise. He wants it all. He’s God. That’s it, period!
When God doesn’t hold, or reside in the proper place in our lives, it shows that we don’t truly understand who He is, and that He doesn’t truly matter all that much.
It’s interesting, because we put things that are important to us in a high priority. What would people say about you? What are your top priorities that are known by just spending a few hours with you…your job, family, money, fame, etc… Does your life, actions speak that God is the most important?
Don’t go through the motions with God. That won’t ever mean anything to Him. He desires more. He wants everything…your praise, heart and reverence/respect. When this is in place, everything else will fall into place too! (Matt.6:33)
Since I am a believer and have been for a while, it’s easy to “do the stuff” because I’m used to it. I don’t want to get used to the Lord. I want to encounter His glory new every morning.
I need to stay close to God, loving Him, but also evaluating and reflecting on the condition of my heart. Have I lost my joy, peace, or desire to please Him? If so, why? Make the change, get right! Again, this can only happen if I stay close to the Lord. Why would I want anything else? What else compares to Him? I have it all in Him!
Lord, You have been so good to me. I don’t ever want to take for granted my relationship with You. I can’t understand others who do. I pray for them, to come close to You. And I pray that I would never play games with You and offer up half-hearted praise or respect. You deserve the best that I can offer.
Lord, examine my heart and my priorities. Show me anything that needs to align back to You.
