2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 1 John 5:2-4 NASB
We often identify love as a feeling. But here, love is more than a feeling, it is put into action. We love when we keep God’s commands. This is huge because it takes away a lot of guessing and feelings and causes something that is usually intangible to be known. We love when we obey God’s commands. We know His commands because we know and study His Word.
But this Scripture also says us to love His children too. This means we can’t be standoffish. We have to be right in the middle of God’s children/people, loving them. That is hard to do sometimes, but it is part of The Way.
Lastly, in this, whatever is born of God….you, me, our brothers and sisters in the Lord, have overcome the world. Don’t you want to hang with overcomers? 😂
I need to love. But not in word, in action. I need my love to be active and aimed to God’s people and others. I also need to love God by obeying His commands. This means I need to be in His Word more and more.
Lord, in this world, Your love is not very active. Not because You have denied it to us, but because Your people haven’t expressed it as You desire. Help me to love the way You desire, not in the way the world says to love. Help me to have a heart for Your people too. Let the world see the love we have for each other and desire it as well.
