Glorify God • Magnify Him in this World!

Deception!

Scripture
18 The magicians tried with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, but they could not; so there were gnats on man and beast. 19 Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them, as the Lord had said.
Exodus 8:18-19 NASB

Observation
Up until this plague, the magicians of Egypt were able to mimic the plagues that Moses declared from God. But it was here, with the plague of gnats, that even the magicians of Egypt had to declare defeat and proclaim that the plague of gnats was the finger of God!

The magicians could deceive Pharoah and the people of Egypt to a point. They thought the magicians had real power. It was just deception, evil power.

The evil one likes to deceive. He will make things “seem” like they are from God or like God, but they are in fact, counterfeit.

It is important to stay so close to God that you are able to detect deception. Deception comes in many forms. It doesn’t always have a red suit and a pitch fork. Sometimes it disguises itself as light, and can be found in the presence of God’s people, in churches that don’t know how to distinguish between God and deception.

Application
The key is God’s Word. The truth came to Pharoah through Moses. Moses declared the Words of God. He confronted Pharoah only when the Lord told him to.

The key for us is to know God’s Word too! Many Christians suffer because they don’t know God’s Word. They know a few Scriptures, they listen in church, but they don’t study and learn it for themselves.

Don’t let the unimportant things, the things that are here today and gone tomorrow, become more important than God’s Word!

Think about the things that you have given your time to. That TV show, where you never missed an episode, but is now off the air. It provided 30 minutes of entertainment, but now what?

The Word of God lasts forever. For the believer, if you persevere till the end, will have a relationship with God for all eternity. Isn’t that worth taking time to know Him now? You don’t want to get to Heaven and He says, depart from Me, I never knew you.

Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked. What you sow, you will reap. Sow the good things of God in your life. Sow the truth! You will not be disappointed!

Prayer
Lord, help me to know Your Word more and more. Help me to k ow the truth. Help me to be led and guided by the Holy Spirit. In this world, I desire to know You first before all things.

Peace
Todd
